IEC Hazardous Substance Testing Procedures - Update
Date Posted: Wednesday, 14th February 2007
The draft test procedure for determining hazardous substances, IEC 62321 to support RoHS compliance, was rejected by National Committees during 2006.
A total of 395 comments and amendments have been forwarded to IEC. These have been considered and will be incorporated into a new CDV (Committee Draft for Voting by IEC members) and distributed during September 2007.
Even if the new draft is accepted; there will be a further circulation as a FDIS (Final Draft International Standard) before formal publication. Whilst publication can now only be during late 2008 at the earliest, IEC 62321 is subject to parallel voting which means that it can simultaneous become a European Harmonised Standard without further delay
The procedures in the draft can be used by industry and others; but the rationale to do should be documented.
